Galería del Sur Art Gallery Benefits Local Artists and the Community

We’re proud to announce that Galería del Sur, San Juan del Sur's only art gallery and studio, is now open—and benefiting the community. This unique art gallery and studio is a joint project between Fundación A. Jean Brugger and Tom and Janet Quinn. The gallery features the works of local artists. It also uses the proceeds from art sales to offer in-depth workshops to local children and adults six days a week on such subjects including painting, sewing and drawing/animation. It’s a wonderful place to discover one-of-a-kind artwork and support the community.

We are thrilled to have received press coverage in the The Guardian, New York Times, Coastal Living Magazine, Outside's Go, the Washington Post, USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, and Newsweek!

Here are just a few excerpts from this exciting coverage:

"...so we drove to San Juan del Sur and stayed at the hugely successful Pelican Eyes. There they plough their profits back into the community, so you can stay in a luxury bungalow and eat fantastic food and still feel good about yourself. Perfect."
~ The Guardian, (January 19, 2008)

"Where else can you sip a margarita in an infinity pool whle you watch the sun set and know that your bar tab is helping make this party of Nicaragua a little better?"

"In fact the best meals I had in the entire country were prepared by the American chef at Pelican Eyes Piedras y Olas Hotel & Resort in San Juan del Sur, on the Pacific Coast, my last stop. The meal wasn't complicated, but the hotel, one of the most popular in the country, figured out how to combine fresh local ingredients with seasoning and spice to create rich flavors."
~ Jason George, Chicago Tribune (June 24, 2007)

"What Pelican Eyes does have is great food, spacious rooms and a fantastic vibe. Costa Rica, watch out."
~Jason George, Chicago Tribune (May 13, 2007)

"Investors, second-home buyers looking in Central America are exploring the potential of the country's western coast."
~Diane Wedner, Los Angeles Times (March 11, 2007)

"The American-run Pelican Eyes Hotel, situated above San Juan del Sur, and other Nicaraguan locales are making a splash with tourists."
~Laura Bly, USA TODAY (February 15, 2007)

"San Juan del Sur has something special in its soul, and the world is noticing. This is Nicaragua recovered, unearthed and alive again."
~Taylor Bruce, Coastal Living (January/February 2007)

"Loll in one of the pools at Pelican Eyes, a new development above the town of San Juan del Sur, on Nicaragua's Pacific Coast: a tranquil breeze blows up the hillside from the perfect bay below, the pool's disappearing edge merges with sea and sky..."
~Gregory Dicum, New York Times (December 17, 2006)

"Piedras y Olas is a gorgeously landscaped hillside hotel overlooking the harbor in San Juan del Sur with WiFi Internet access and a poolside bar."
