Dear
Friends,
It is
with regret that we will be canceling the Jamaica Pool Party. We
feel that at this time it might be valuable to clear the air a
bit about our goals and accomplishments.
This
was one of six yearly fundraising events for Fundación A. Jean
Brugger (Global Culinary Adventures and Concerts). We always
look forward to you joining with us in support of the terrific
programs that the Foundation offers this community-- we try to
offer a sense of fun and entertainment in our quiet pueblo. Our
intention with the Jamaica Pool Party was to share with you some
of the delicious new dishes LBee has created, offer a new venue
at Bistro La Canoa, and put a refreshing twist on it all with
water volleyball…creating a memorable evening out that offers
the added benefit of knowing you were contributing to those in
your community who are less fortunate.
Over
the past year Fundación A. Jean Brugger and the Veterinary
Clinic have come up with many exciting, unique, and entertaining
ways to raise money. On behalf of the foundation students, our
community’s “ancianos” and the abused and abandoned
animals that we attend to, we are very grateful to all of you
who have supported them by attending and enjoying the Godoy
concerts, Valentine’s and Saint Patrick’s day bashes, 4th of
July, Global Culinary Adventures stretching across the globe
from Japan to Italy, from Spain to Greece, Art in the Park. We
have also been fortunate to offer a very special visit and free
performance from Mudd Butts international youth theatre hosted
by the Foundation and humble local San Juan families.
The
Jamaican Pool Party price we established for this event was
based primarily, of course, on a donation of funds, and we felt
we were offering a generous package including an all you can eat
buffet with a wide variety of wonderful Jamaican dishes, two
drinks instead of one and pool festivities. It appears that this
time we may have overextended what the community feels it can
support
San
Juan has been changing rapidly and the Foundation and the
Clinic, along with Pelican Eyes...Piedras y Olas, have always
focused on positive, realistic, and sustainable ways to evolve;
we are not the same foundation or hotel we were even a year ago,
and we must continue to make changes that will support the
quality and integrity of the program mission that was originally
envisioned 10 years ago when this lovely partnership was first
formed. An integral component of this partnership is that
Fundación A. Jean Brugger does not take out any percentage of
any donation to cover administrative expenses. 100% of all
donations support programs and projects.
As our
family grows with and within San Juan del Sur, we look to you
for continued support and for your participation in a healthy,
educated, and communal movement forward.
Sincerely,
Jon Thompson
