Dear Family and Friends,

I write to you at the front end of 2007. Albeit a very busy year, 2006 was the most productive ever for Fundación A. Jean Brugger. Our Scholarship Program has grown to record levels, the Uniform Program reached over 500 young students throughout the region, and the Ancianos Program now serves over 150 community elders every month! As much as this growth reflects success, it does take enormous effort. 

Since the inception of the foundation in 1999, Jean Brugger has unconditionally given herself and her resources to the community of San Juan del Sur. Her leadership and generosity have inspired others to give, participate, and respect the development of young people in Nicaragua. What started as a unique personal project with her friend Chris Berry, the Fundación A. Jean Brugger and Hotel Piedras y Olas collaboration now employs and supports the education of hundreds of San Juan del Sur residents every day. 

Jean is both friend and angel. She has endeavored tirelessly to keep the foundation strong, and has come to embody the soul of its mission. And as she retires from her position as director, she leaves a legacy of goodwill and compassion for others to follow. The work continues and we will remain stewards of her dedication to support the community through supporting and providing educational opportunities for San Juan del Sur. 

This newsletter is but an example of the outstanding results Jean's leadership has had in 2006, and offers you a glimpse of where Fundación A. Jean Brugger is planning to go in 2007. I hope you enjoy reading of our accomplishments… we owe this success to you and others who continue to support Fundación A. Jean Brugger.

Estimados amigos,

Les escribo al comienzo del ano 2007. Aunque fue un ano muy ocupado, al ano 2006 fue lo más productivo en la historia de Fundación A. Jean Brugger. Nuestro programa de becas ha crecido a nuevos niveles, el programa de uniformes escolares impactaba mas de 500 alumnos jóvenes por toda la región, y el programa de los ancianos ahora sirve mas de 150 viejitos mensual! Lo tanto como este refleja bastantes éxitos, toma enorme esfuerza. 

Desde el comienzo de la fundación en 1999, Jean Brugger se ha dada si misma y sus recursos han inspirado lo demás a donar, participar, y respetar el desarrollo de los jóvenes en Nicaragua. Lo que comenzó como un proyecto personal con su amigo Chris Berry, la colaboración entre Fundación A. Jean Brugger y Pelican Eyes…Piedras y Olas Hotel & Resort ahora le da empleo y apoya la educación a cientos de sanjuaneños cada día. 

Jean es amiga y ángel a la vez. Ella ha trabajado sin descanso para mantener la fundación fuerte y representar el alma de la misión de la fundación. Y mientras y se retira de su puesto de directora, nos deja un patrimonio de buen intención y compasión para que seguemos su camino. El trabajo continua y nosotros quedaremos con su dedicación de apoyar la comunidad a través el mejoramiento y ofrecimiento de oportunidades escolares a la comunidad de San Juan del Sur. 

Este boletín es un ejemplo de los resultados increíbles del ano 2006 del liderazgo de Jean, y les ofrece un idea a donde va Fundación A. Jean Brugger en 2007. Espero que lo disfruten…los debemos mucho porque sin su apoyo, nuestros éxitos no hubieran sido posibles.

Legalization and New Board Members

Always continuing to strengthen our foundation and contribute to the community, Fundación A. Jean Brugger has managed to finalize the legalization process in Nicaragua.

Legalización y Nueva Junta Directiva

Con el objetivo de seguir fortaleciendo nuestras bases y de seguir contribuyendo a la comunidad nicaragüense, la Fundación A. Jean Brugger ha logrado finalizar el proceso de legalización aquí en Nicaragua. Este ha sido un arduo trabajo pero afortunadamente contamos con un equipo muy importante. Los miembros de la Nueva Junta Directiva y Los miembros de la Comunidad con Vos y Voto en la Fundación son personas muy destacadas y participativas en la sociedad Nicaragüense es por ello que para nosotros es gratificante que conozcan un poco mas de ellas.

Field Trips and Reflections

Fundación A. Jean Brugger not only supports education in San Juan del Sur through the Scholarship Program, but the Foundation also provides recreational activities for the sponsored students to interact with the community at large and among themselves for a more holistic approach to personal and community development. 

Among the recent activities facilitated by Fundación A. Jean Brugger was a field trip to a lakefront farm in the municipality of Cardenas. Fundación students traveled the 45 minutes to the farm to partake in a day of fun playing soccer, horseback riding, a picnic lunch, and relaxation while enjoying the incredible view of Ometepe Island and its two enormous volcanoes. 

Another student field trip was to the Xilonem National Zoo. We had a great time seeing the different species of animals found in Nicaragua and abroad. Even more importantly, we discovered how crucial it is to put our environmental awareness into practice for the benefit of the entire Nicaraguan community. 

Fundación A. Jean Brugger is building one of the fundamental pillars for the development of our country- the education of its youth. Together, we are confronting challenges new and old, political and social so that Nicaragua will continue to grow. Providing positive educational experiences for the youth addresses many of our country’s issues. However, working to improve our quality of life is not up just to one person or one institution; it is up to all of us.

Actividades Extraordinarias de 2006

Fundación A. Jean Brugger, además de apoyar la educación en San Juan del Sur, a través del sistema de Becas que nos beneficia como jóvenes que estudiamos en las diversas facultades, nos brindan recreación para que exista una mejor comunicación social, apoyo mutuo y de amistad entre nosotros como estudiantes de la fundación.

Entre las actividades recientes que ha realizado la fundación se encuentra el paseo que se realizo en el municipio de Cárdenas, en una finca que se encuentra contigo al Gran lago de Nicaragua, mis compañeros durante el día disfrutamos de sus aguas, a si mismo la vista de la inmensa Isla y sus dos volcanes que le dan realce natural.

Otra de las actividades recreativas que realizo la fundación para nosotros como estudiantes, fue el paseo al Zoológico Xilonem en carretera Masaya, en el cual apreciaron las diversas especies de animales que posee Nicaragua y de la importancia de poner en práctica nuestra educación ambiental a la comunidad Nicaragüense. Aprovechando esa misma gira, disfrutamos del Cine, en Galerías Santo Domingo en la capital de Managua.

Es importante destacar que la fundación, esta construyendo uno de los pilares fundamentales para el desarrollo de nuestra nación, que es la educación de sus jóvenes para enfrentar los retos de los nuevos tiempos y lograr las transformaciones jurídicas y sociales que Nicaragua necesita para su desarrollo, de la excelente educación de los jóvenes depende el éxito o fracaso; sin embargo solucionar los problemas de una sociedad, no es tarea de una sola persona, es tarea de todos.

Museum Update

In 2006, Fundación A. Jean Brugger began the official fundraising effort for the Museo de Naturaleza(Nature Museum) project that is planned for the William Russeau Nature Reserve. The first of its kind in the region, our museum will be unique in both design and exhibits. Inspired by the straw bale construction that personifies Hotel Piedras y Olas, the museum will be aesthetically pleasing while environmentally conscious.

Programming and rotating exhibits will focus on the history, flora and fauna, and culture of San Juan del Sur. Complete with walking trails and interactive wildlife areas, the museum promises to be a fun and educational for locals and foreigners alike.

Special thanks also go out to everyone who has purchased a 2007 Faces of San Juan del Sur calendar. Over $6,000 has been raised from the sales of these colorful calendars created by Cesar Paniamogan, Jr. and Dan Polley on behalf of Fundación A. Jean Brugger. In total, we have raised over $35,000, but there is still a long way to go. 

The Museo Project is our most ambitious to date and we need your help. Let us know how you would like to assist us in our efforts. We plan to break ground in 2007, so now is the time!!

Durante el ano 2006, Fundación A. Jean Brugger comenzó a recaudar fondos para el proyecto que se llama el Museo de la Naturaleza. El primer museo de este tipo en la región, nuestro museo será único con su diseño y sus exhibiciones. Inspirado por la construcción ecológica del hotel & resort Pelican Eyes….Piedras y Olas, nuestro museo será no solo bonito sino consiente del medio ambiente a la vez. 

La programación del museo enfocara en la historia, flora y fauna, y cultura de San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. El Museo ofrecerá senderos y áreas de la vida silvestre indígena para que sea un recurso público y dinámico para extranjeros y nicaragüenses. 

Compartamos nuestra agradecimiento a todos que han comprado el calendario de 2007 que se llama Faces of San Juan del Sur. Más de $6,000 ha sido recaudado de las ventas de este calendario diseñado por Cesar Paniamogan, Jr and Dan Polley. En total, hemos recibido más de $35,000, pero falta mucho todavía. 

El Museo de la Naturaleza es el proyecto mas ambicioso desde el comienzo de nuestra organización y necesitamos su apoyo. Déjanos saber como le gustaría ayudarnos realizar este proyecto. Planeamos comenzar a construir en 2007, entonces ahora es el tiempo!!
